Suitable for women and men who are of average weight but with small, localised pockets of fat that are resistant to diet and exercise, liposuction can be performed on the back, chest, stomach, hips, thighs, buttocks and the upper arms. It can also be performed under the chin to reshape the jowls.

Usually fluid is inserted into the treatment area which makes the fat easier to remove and reduces the risk of bruising and then a small cannula is inserted into the skin and the fat and fluid is sucked out through a tube. Depending on the amount of fat to be removed and the size of the area treated, this procedure can last from one to three hours.

Liposuction can be performed either under a general or local anaesthetic depending on the size of the area to be treated. This means that it could be done as a day case although in most cases you will need to stay overnight.

Afterwards you will be advised to wear compression garments which help to reduce swelling and improve your body shape. Depending on the extent of the procedure you will be back to work within a week or two.

As with all surgical procedures, there are risks and potential side effects to a liposuction procedure and Mr Yii will discuss them in full with you before you go ahead with the procedure.
