Abdominoplasty (Tummy Tuck)

Mr Yii has performed many Abdominoplasty procedures in Leicester & Lincoln. Commonly known as a tummy tuck, this surgical procedure is aimed at men and women who wish to address excess skin on their abdomen. This is not a solution to obesity as it is aimed at men and women who are at or near their ideal weight but have excess skin or muscle weakness either as a result of weight loss or childbirth.

There are several variations of the tummy tuck and Mr Yii will be able to assess which will be best for you. A full or standard tummy tuck is where a long incision is made above the pubic area, excess fat and skin is removed and stretched muscles are repaired and stitched together. The belly button may need repositioning.

If the pockets of fat are sited below the belly button then you may be a candidate for a mini-tummy tuck which leaves the belly button in place. An extended tummy tuck follows the same process but the incision will extend around to the back and pockets of fat on the back will be removed. Alternatively, you may not need a surgical procedure but could benefit from liposuction instead.

An abdominoplasty will be performed under a general anaesthetic. You usually need to stay one to three nights depending on the extent of the surgery.

Scarring is major factor in an abdominoplasty procedure which you have to take into account as there will be a long incision above the pubic area and potentially around the belly button. If you have an extended tummy tuck the scar will extend around the back. In patients with massive weight loss a longitudinal midline scar is sometimes needed to address the redundant skin.

As with all surgical procedures, there are risks and potential side effects to a tummy tuck procedure and Mr Yii will discuss them in full with you before you go ahead with the procedure.
